Field work fun in the Santa Monica Mountains

Proving that it’s not just for kids, the second annual Santa Monica Mountains Science Festival promises a bevy of outdoorsy-activities that will entice the stubbornest coach potatoes to get up to enjoy the wide open spaces.

Watch owls fly at night. Identify a wildflower. Learn how to track mountain lions and bobcats. Listen to stories from long ago.

Taking place at the Paramount Ranch (7-10 pm on April 15, 11am – 4pm April 16), the weekend event is sponsored by the National Park Service in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Other events slated are hands-on demonstrations, nature walks, live animal displays and a chance to meet and talk with scientists. We promise the scientists will be nice and won’t use all those big scary Latin words – unless you like that sort of stuff.
