The best environmental education is that which one experiences first hand. It is easiest to protect the places one knows best. To truly study plants and animals, one must see them in their natural setting and under natural conditions. Arboretums and zoos are important attractions but it is the wilderness that provides us with the best classroom. It is this belief and philosophy that guides SoCal Wild's environmental education and eco-tours.

Restorative Landscaping
We at SoCal Wild have a philosophy that preservation alone is not sufficient to quell the biodiversity crisis now facing planet earth. It is important to protect wild places, especially large core habitat areas. But we must also connect those preserves to each other and connect the human communities to wild places or they will never be safe from destruction. Efforts like the Wildlands Project have set the groundwork for much of this to happen.
SoCal Wild brings that Continental and Regional Conservation effort down one more notch to the local and often urban level. We believe that by connecting these communities to the concepts of preservation and restoration we not only increase our ability to preserve wild species and natural communities, but we also improve the quality of life of those that live around and visit local parks and preserves. SoCal Wild has been particularly involved in the cities of Santa Ana and Orange and along the lower Santa Ana River and its major tributary, Santiago Creek.
Landscaping with native plants can save money on maintenance, reduce water use, provide habitat and be beautiful..GO NATIVE!
